Why You Should Call a Los Angeles Criminal Defense Attorneys to Help You Get Your DUI Expunged
In the state of California, a DUI conviction is a criminal offense, not a simple traffic violation. It will not automatically fall off your record after so many years, but it does not need to stay on your record forever.
Although your record is technically not sealed when a conviction is expunged, post-conviction relief can eliminate or reduce the consequences of a DUI after you have completed probation.
This can be accomplished either by withdrawing a guilty or no contest plea, and re-entering a not guilty plea, or, if you were found guilty at trial, a verdict may be set aside.
Getting your DUI expunged isn’t necessarily an easy or straightforward process. In order to get the result you need, it helps to have a qualified lawyer representing your interests.

What Does Expungement Mean?
The website for the Judicial Branch of California states “true expungement does not exist in California.” However, it is possible to clean up your criminal record and reduce its impact, significantly. This is done by a petition process. Penal Code (P.C.) 1203.4 allows many convictions to be cleared or dismissed. Many DUI convictions can be dismissed at the successful completion of probation if you have followed all court orders and do not have any new charges against you.
It is important to note that DMV consequences of a drunk driving conviction are separate from a criminal conviction. A DUI expungement will not affect your DUI record or points. If you get a DUI expunged and apply for jobs that require a clean DMV history, your DUI will not be erased. In California, a DUI will stay under your DMV record for 10 years, regardless of whether it is a misdemeanor or a felony DUI.

It is important to note, expungement is not a right. It is granted through a petition which involves
What are the Benefits of Expunging a California DUI?
Having a Los Angeles DUI expunged can be helpful in getting hired. After a drunk driving or drugged driving conviction has been expunged, employers may not use it as a consideration for hiring decisions, and the conviction will no longer show up on background checks.
If your record is expunged, you can answer that you have never been convicted on many, but not all, job applications.
For example, you may have to disclose your prior criminal history if your job requires a government-issued license, such as a pilot’s license, or applications for public office positions, applications for professional licensing by the state, city, or county agencies, or for contracting with the California State Lottery may require you to disclose dismissed/expunged convictions.
And although not legally significant, you can tell family and friends and new relationships that you have not been convicted of a crime.
